Hello, everyone.
For those of you who were here before we lost everything, welcome back, and I hope that you'll forgive us for what happened. I can assure you that there was no ill will, and that it was completely beyond our control.
Of course, one of the first things a community must do when it springs back up is reinstate its rules and guidelines. Again, these are the law of the land, and will be the first reference we Admins and our Moderators will use to determine the difference between what's right and what's wrong.
Thank you in advance for reading and understanding the rules. Please be aware that these rules are subject to amendment at any time, with or without warning, as the staff of this forum sees fit.
Rule #1: You are a guest here.
Even if you've registered for an account with our forum, you're still a guest, and this means that we will treat you as we would a guest in our own homes. However, this also means that by signing up for an account with us, you agree to follow the rules we have set out. If you don't, you will be removed from our forum, and depending on the severity of your actions, you may not be allowed back.
Rule #2: Treat the forum staff with respect.
The forum staff--we Administrators and the Moderators we elect to help keep order in the forum--are here to help provide you and the other members of the forum as wonderful an experience as we possibly can. We keep the boards clean, we resolve conflicts, and we do our best to provide a friendly atmosphere for you. In return, all we ask is that you respect us, and respect the decisions we make. Both Moderators and Administrators alike have earned their positions, I assure you.
Rule #3: Respect other members of the forum.
We have welcomed you into our community--likewise, we have welcomed other members into our community, and they enjoy the same priviledges that you do. They are welcome to participate in discussions, games, and other activities just the same as you are, so please treat them with the same attitude that you expect from them. If you have an issue with somebody else, we prefer that you settle it privately, or that you bring it to the attention of the forum staff. Please do not make your issues a public matter.
Rule #4: Keep your posts clean.
Strong language and lewd, pornographic, or otherwise suggestive imagery is not acceptable. We do have underage members, after all, and this is not that kind of site. If a staff member deems a post unacceptable, they have the authority to delete or remove it without warning and without explanation. If you see that your post--or even a section of your post--has been removed and you put it back up, you will be banned, and you will not be invited back. No questions asked.
Rule #5: Keep your posts readable.
Legibility is considered a good thing here, not only because people will be able to read and understand what you're attempting to convey, but they will also be able to see what context you're putting it into. Please use proper spelling, grammar, and syntax (i.e. they're = they are vs. their = they own it) as often as possible. There is a handy-dandy "Spell Check" button down at the bottom of the posting window, but please keep in mind that Spell Check does not check for grammar or syntax. That burden falls on you.
Also, please do not deviate from the default text colors of whichever forum "skin" you are using. There will be plenty of different skins and themes to choose from on down the road, and that yellow text that looks so wonderful against your dark background may not be so great for somebody with a lighter background.
Rule #6: Don't be an asshole.
Causing drama, trolling, flaming, or generally being an undesirable person is also unacceptable. An Internet troll is somebody in a community who starts controversy and drama for their own enjoyment, and anyone caught intentionally picking fights or otherwise trolling will be given a one-way ticket to Bansville. If you suspect somebody of being a troll, please let an Administrator or a Moderator know right away. Thank you.
Rule #7: IRL Threats = IRL Ban.
Serious threats of violence against other users will not be tolerated, and will set you up for an immediate ban. Violence may be used in a comedic or parodic manner, but if you see something and feel that it isn't "just for laughs," let an Administrator or a Moderator know right away.
Rule #8: We are not Pirates!
Copyrighted material is the property of the author/owner, and may not be used without said author/owner's permission. Also, this forum will not be used as a vehicle for pirated/bootleg software/music/merchandise. This is illegal. ILLEGAL. For those of you who don't know, that means "not legal." It will not be tolerated.
Rule #9: You are not a Necromancer.
Necro-posting is the act of ressurecting a long-forgotten thread, causing it to rise to the top of the queue from the underworld of Page 2 (or wherever the new topics end and the old ones begin) and Beyond. Unless you have something absolutely golden to contribute to dead threads, leave them alone. A thread is considered "dead" when there hasn't been any activity in it for seven to ten days.
Likewise, bumping new threads to keep them at the top is frowned upon, which means don't do it. Also, please refrain from double/triple/quadruple posting, as this is simply annoying. If you have something to add that can't wait, use the handy-dandy "Modify" button. The only exception to this is for GMs who are posting updates for their own OOC threads.
Rule #10: Regarding images in posts...
If you're going to post them, please keep images to a moderate size, and link to larger images. Also, please don't overdo it with the smilies and emoticons. They're there, sure, but that doesn't mean that you HAVE to use them.
Again, thanks for reading. We'll keep you posted on any changes.
Thanks,
-TiaRPF Staff
